5 Most Practical Gun Accessories
Have you recently purchased a firearm for the first time, or are you considering making a purchase in the coming days? If so, you have a big decision ahead of you. There are many different types of guns out there, and it’s important to take a variety of factors into consideration when choosing the right one for your needs. But even after you decide on a firearm, you’ll still have to decide what gun accessories you want. There are a wide variety of accessories from which you can choose. Here are five of the most practical.
1. Extra Magazines
It’s easy to overlook the need for extra magazines when you’re new to firearms. However, any seasoned firearm enthusiast will explain that having a backup magazine is a good idea. Keep in mind that it takes time to fill a magazine back up with ammunition, and you may not have the luxury of time in some situations. Having an extra, loaded magazine on hand can help ensure that you have the firepower you need, right when you need it. An extra magazine can also help you save time at the shooting range.
Before you walk out of a gun or sporting goods store with a new firearm, make sure you have a reliable holster to carry it in. Gun safety should be your top priority, whether you conceal carry or open carry. Don’t waste your gun on a cheap cloth holster, either. The point of a holster is to secure your firearm and prevent you from accidentally pulling the trigger.
Flimsy cloth won’t give you the protection you need. Instead, opt for a hard holster that makes it impossible to accidentally discharge your firearm while it’s holstered or while you’re removing it from the holster. You should also make sure the holster you choose is specifically designed for your gun’s make and model. Otherwise you may not get the snug, secure fit you want. Talk to your gun dealer if you need any help choosing a holster that’s secure and comfortable.
This may seem obvious, but you might be surprised to discover that many people who own guns don’t have extra ammunition. It can be confusing to choose the right ammunition for your needs, but it’s an important step in gun ownership. Consult with your gun dealer if you don’t know enough about grain, caliber or bullet type to choose the right bullets for your firearm. Then, purchase at least a couple of boxes of your chosen type of ammunition so you have it on-hand when you need it.
4. Storage Solutions
A gun safe is expensive, but it’s a necessity when you own one or more guns. If you just have one small firearm, you can opt for a small, shoebox-sized safe. But keep in mind that unless you secure it to the wall or floor somehow, a thief could easily make off with it. Larger safes provide more security and are more difficult to steal. They also offer more room, so you can potentially grow your gun collection and keep all your firearms safely stored out of reach of young hands.
5. Gun Cleaning Kit
If you want your gun to perform smoothly and reliably, you need to clean it frequently. Neglecting this step could lead to misfires. A quality gun cleaning kit is well worth the investment. Most kits last a while and don’t have to be replaced too frequently.
